Rusty Gage

Rusty Gage

Director of Active Living

About Rusty

I recently moved to Henniker after having lived on the Hawaiian island of Maui for the past twenty years, where I owned and operated an award-winning gymnastics training center.

Hobbies and passions include just about any type of physical activity, having invested 90% of my life in gymnastics, both as an athlete and as a coach. My current passion is distance cycling because it’s a no-impact form of exercise that is accessible to almost everybody, keeps the body strong, allows time to clear the brain, and can be goal-oriented if so chosen. I also enjoy photography, proud to say that some of my work is displayed in private residences back on Maui.

The part of being Director of Active Living that I enjoy the most is the sense of community and camaraderie that I see bloom and grow amongst those who choose to participate. I constantly hear, “This place is like a second home to me.” To me, that description embodies family, comfort, warmth, acceptance…all those things that wrap around each of us like a soft blanket if we’re open to allowing it to happen. We all need that sense of community, and it is very present at White Birch Center for Active Living.

I enjoy White Birch Center as an organization because the people who work here do so for the right reasons. Everybody cares that they put forth their best effort, and everybody contributes whenever a need arises. Having been a small business owner for most of my life, I can comfortably state that such organizational dynamics are indeed rare, and must be treasured and nurtured when they do actually come together.
